Legendary Yankees public address announcer Bob Sheppard has officially retired from his post at the ripe age of 99-years-old. Sheppard originally started his career with the Yankees organization way back on April 17, 1951.
Sheppard continued his career throughout every season until the end of the 2007 season when he came down with a bronchial infection. This is an amazing story and it is sad to see his career come to an end.
I remember going to Yankee Stadium all the time while growing up and the only thing more consistent in sports than the Yankees winning the World Series was the voice of Bob Sheppard. His replacement has some big shoes to fill.
To this day however, Derek Jeter uses a recording of Bob Sheppard’s voice as he steps up the plate. Some legends never will die.
