The Los Angeles Angels have traded center fielder Gary Matthews Jr. to the Mets in exchange for pitcher Brian Stokes. The Angles have also agreed to pay for $21.5 million dollars of Matthews Jr. contract.

This is a great deal for the Mets, especially since the Angels will pay for a portion of the contract.

Matsui-Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have signed outfielder Hideki Matsui to a one year contract worth $6 million dollars. This comes not as a big surprise to me, as it was assumed the Yankees were going to let him go.

It is a strange situation considering  Matsui was the 2009 World Series MVP, but all good things must come to an end. He was a great asset for the Yankees since the 2003 season, but it was time for the two sides to part ways.

Matsui and the Angels will be a good fit for a year, as long as his knees hold up.

“NEW YORK — CC Sabathia heated up as the night went on, throwing fastballs past the Los Angeles Angels and pumping his fist for emphasis.

On a blustery night more suited to bobsleds than baseballs, Sabathia pitched eight superb innings of four-hit ball to win his second straight postseason start, and the New York Yankees took advantage of a rare sloppy game by the Angels to win the AL championship series opener 4-1 Friday.

“That’s why we got CC,” Johnny Damon said. “To be a workhorse during the season, of course, but to shut down teams in the postseason.”

This was a tremendous game from C.C. Sabathia and the Yankees to strike first in this series. The Yankees are the hottest team in the playoffs, starting 4-0 in their current playoff run. Tonight, the Yankees hope to continue this trend with A.J. Burnett on the hill.
