Manny Staying with Dodgers

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

“LOS ANGELES — Manny Ramirez is coming back to the Dodgers next season.

The team said Friday that the slugger exercised his $20 million contract option for 2010. His agent Scott Boras informed general manager Ned Colletti of the decision, which Ramirez had until this month to make.

He could have exercised an out clause in the two-year, $45 million deal he signed in March.

Ramirez hit .290 with 19 home runs and 63 RBIs in 104 regular season games. He missed 50 games while suspended for violating baseball’s drug policy.

In the NL division series against St. Louis, Ramirez batted .308 with no homers and two RBI. Against Philadelphia in the NL championship series, he hit .263 with one homer and two RBI.”

The Dodgers must be ecstatic that they were able to solidify that Manny will be back next year the first day in the off-season. This is slightly different then last year, when the signing of Manny went all the way into spring training.

Manny Listed as Day to Day

“LOS ANGELES — Manny Ramirez is day to day after being hit by a pitch in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ game against the Cincinnati Reds.

A team spokesman said Ramirez was hit on the side of his left hand by a pitch from Homer Bailey leading off the third inning Tuesday night. He was replaced by pinch runner Juan Pierre.

Ramirez went to a hospital for precautionary X-rays, which were negative.

“It’s scary, it’s so easy to break a bone,” Dodgers manager Joe Torre said after the Dodgers’ 12-3 win. “We’re very fortunate it was only a bruise. You don’t even want to think about doing without him again.”

The Dodgers and Ramirez are lucky that he will not see any time on the DL. Manny was hit very hard on the left hand by Bailey, but since the X-rays are negative there is not much to worry about. It just goes to show you how easily players can get hurt sometimes. He may receive the day off for tomorrow’s game against the Reds but not too much other than that.
