Jets head coach Rex Ryan has been in the news a tremendous amount of time over this past season for never holding back what he wants to say. Only this time, Rex is in trouble for it. At a mixed martial arts event on Saturday night in Sunrise, Florida, a photograph was taken of Ryan giving the middle finger. Apparently, Ryan was being heckled by some Miami Dolphins fans and they pushed him too far. Ryan formerly apologized to the NFL and the Jets organization for his actions.
Did anyone catch that Jets game against the Raiders two weeks ago where rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez was eating a hot dog on the bench? That was a first-time sight for many in the business in all of their years in the NFL.
It was pretty amazing to see the starting quarterback of an NFL team sitting on the bench not only eating a hot dog, but trying to hide it under his pants.
Not too slick Mr. Sanchez, but regardless the Jets won in a blow-out.
Rex Ryan was still seething the day after the Jets vaunted defense imploded down the stretch in their 31-27 loss to the Dolphins. Ryan said he’s “mad still” at the performance by a unit that looked scary good through the first four weeks of the season only to falter Monday night.
“We’re a lot better defensive team than how we played,” Ryan said Monday in a conference call. “That’s got to be proven. We’d given up three touchdowns the whole season on defense and gave up three in the fourth quarter after we got leads. That’s our time to go for the jugular. We just never responded.”
From Darrelle Revis getting uncharacteristically torched for a 53-yard touchdown to Bart Scott missing a tackle on Ronnie Brown’s game-winning two-yard TD run with seconds to go, the Jets were leaking from everywhere.
BALTIMORE – Rex Ryan may have set an unofficial NFL record for a coach: Most news conference time devoted to an upcoming preseason game.
The Jets’ coach spent the better part of a week hyping his homecoming game tonight against his former team, the Ravens. He made a few headlines along the way, deflecting some of the attention away from his rookie quarterback, perhaps by design.
By 8:05, give or take a TV timeout, Ryan’s tough talk will be reduced to echoes. As soon as Mark Sanchez trots on the field, the Monday night spotlight, not to mention the angry glare of Ray Lewis & Co., will be focused on the $50 million kid.
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Jets displayed more emotion on the fourth day of training camp than they did last December when the team lost four of its last five games.
“Today was our first real practice,” linebacker Bart Scott said. “Practices like that can be productive. I have a little more respect for the offense now.”
This team needs to get into shape. As of right now, the team is just there. They need to come out of the shadows, anyway they can. New York has always been home to the Giants.
